Voluntary Change from Curriculum Version 17W to 23W of the Bachelor's Program Business Administration

A voluntary change from Curriculum 17W to 23W needs to be well considered! Before you make this potentially far-reaching decision, please take a close look at the new curriculum. Because once you have changed, there is no going back! It is not possible to return to 17W in a later semester after a change to 23W, nor can such a change be reversed in any other way.

An overview of the most important changes in Curriculum 23W is compiled below.

A detailed description of the study program according to the new curriculum can be found in the Study Folder for the Bachelor’s Program according to Curriculum 23W.

If you have questions about the curriculum, please contact the Student Representatives BWL.

  • Fewer required courses = more electives.
  • Redesign of the Orientation Phase (STEOP): The STEOP now consists of three courses with an amount of 9 ECTS
    - Business in Action VU (Betriebswirtschaftslehre in Aktion VU) (new!)
    - Introduction to Business Administration VO (Einführung in die Betriebswirtschaftslehre VO)
    - Introduction to Economics VO (Einführung in die Volkswirtschaftslehre VO) or Information Systems Basics VO (Grundlagen Wirtschaftsinformatik VO) (from these two lectures one has to be chosen)
  • Introduction of a separate Module “Information Systems and Digitalization
  • Introduction of a separate course as an accompanying course to the writing of the Bachelor’s Thesis.

Please note that although the new curriculum includes fewer required courses overall, there are also some new courses that are mandatory. These are:

  • FB.1 Introduction to Social and Economic Thinking, VO (Einführung in das sozial- und wirtschaftswissenschaftliche Denken, VO) (1 ECTS)
  • A.1 Business in Action, VU (Betriebswirtschaftslehre in Aktion, VU) (2 ECTS)
  • E.2 Information Systems, UE (Wirtschaftsinformatik, UE) (1 ECTS)
  • E.3 Foundations of Digitalization, VO (Grundlagen Digitalisierung, VO) (4 ECTS)
  • E.4 Digitalization, UE (Digitalisierung, UE) (2 ECTS)
  • G.4 Gender and Diversity Management, VU (Gender und Diversitätsmanagement, VU) (2 ECTS)
  • L.2 Bachelor Course, KS (Bachelorkurs, KS) (2 ECTS)

These courses have no equivalent in Curriculum 17W. Therefore, no recognition is possible in these cases.

  • A voluntary change to Curriculum 23W must be applied for in the Academic Affairs Office during the general admission period. To do so, write an email with the subject “Change Curriculum” to studienabteilung(at)uni-graz.at.
  • Before applying for a voluntary change to curriculum version 23W in the Academic Affairs Office, all examinations must have been validly set in UNIGRAZonline.
  • A large part of the examinations taken according to curriculum version 17W can be automatically transferred to curriculum version 23W. A complete overview of all examinations that can be recognized can be found in the Equivalence List (Appendix III of Curriculum 23W).
  • After the change, please check in your Curriculum Support (“My Degree Programme”) in UNIGRAZonline whether all positive achievements are assigned to the correct modules. The correct allocation is a prerequisite for the modules and courses to be displayed as “passed” and to be taken into account in the requirement check during the course registration. Curriculum Support instructions can be found here.
  • Courses and examinations taken as part of another study program must be recognized for the Bachelor’s Program Business Administration. Please refer to the information on the Recognition of Examinations.
  • In the case of a small number of examinations, automatic transfer is not possible, partly due to changes in the allocation of ECTS. In such cases, the transfer must be applied for specifically at the Dean’s Office. Please use the Transfer Form. In this form, all potentially affected courses are listed. You only need to make the appropriate selection there. The entry in UNIGRAZonline will then be carried out by the Dean’s Office.
  • Orientation Phase (STEOP): Students who have passed all examinations of the STEOP according to curriculum version 17W automatically take the confirmation for the completion of the STEOP with them when transferring to curriculum version 23W. In this respect, there are no restrictions to worry about when changing to the new curriculum!
  • All courses of the STEOP according to the curriculum 23W, which cannot be transferred from 17W, must nevertheless be completed after a change. This applies in any case to the VU Business in Action (VU Betriebswirtschaftslehre in Aktion) from Module A, for which there is no course equivalent in Curriculum 17W. In this context, it is important to note that the successful completion of Module A in Curriculum 23W is a requirement for the registration for a number of other modules or courses (for details see § 3 para. 3 of Curriculum 23W).

Transfer Form

Please fill in the form electronically (only complete fields highlighted in white) and submit it only in a digitally editable form (as a .pdf file). Scanned or photographed forms will not be processed further!

Please send the Transfer Form, after the transfer has been carried out in the Academic Affairs Office and the mandatory tuition fee has been paid, by email to  Ms. Mag. Karin Ernstreiter.

Subject: Change Bachelor’s Program Business Administration

The transfer forms will be processed in the order in which they are received. Since it is not possible for us to reliably estimate how many students actually want to change to the new curriculum, we ask for your understanding that the processing may take some time. In the meantime, please refrain from making any urgent requests. These would at best cause a further delay and would certainly not increase the processing time. When completed, you will receive notification to your student email address.

Additional note for a change with Summer Semester 2024: Of course, we will make every effort to process all Transfer Forms received before the end of the registration period. In order to ensure this, the transfer form must be submitted to Karin Ernstreiter by February 6, 2024 at the latest.

Before the Change
  • Check in UNIGRAZonline whether all examinations have already been validly set
  • Applying for the change in the Academic Affairs Office
After the Change
  • Checking in UNIGRAZonline whether all positive achievements are assigned to the correct modules
  • Application for the transfer of examinations that cannot be transferred automatically ⇒ Transfer Form

Send the Transfer Form to Ms. Mag. Karin Ernstreiter (karin.ernstreiter(at)uni-graz.at) by February 6, 2024 at the latest!

Please include your student ID with all inquiries sent to us so that we can process your request.

Email communication is only available via the email account assigned to you by the University of Graz. If you do not check this regularly, please forward it to a private email address.
