Merit Scholarship

Scholarship for outstanding academic achievements at the School of Business, Economics and Social Sciences (SOWI)

A Merit Scholarship recognizes outstanding academic achievements made in an academic year. Merit Scholarships are announced in the summer months. The application for a scholarship is then possible after completion of the academic year. A merit scholarship may not be less than EUR 750 and not exceed EUR 1,500.

The announcement of the Merit Scholarships for the Academic Year 2025/26 was published in the University Gazette of 15 April 2026 (45th special issue, 26.b piece 2025/26).

The legal basis for this is contained in the Study Grants Act (“Studienförderungsgesetz”) 1992 in sections 2 to 4 (beneficiaries), sections 18 and 19 (duration of entitlement, grounds for renewal) and sections 57 to 61 (merit scholarships).

  • Courses for which the positive evaluation is “successful completion of a course” will be used for the evidence of outstanding academic achievement only if and to the extent that there are not sufficient other courses with an evaluation according to the grading scale.
  • If the study program was completed in the months of October or March (see graduation date of the respective degree certificate), then it is still considered to have been completed in the preceding summer or winter semester.
