Business Administration
The research topics in the field of business administration are broadly based in terms of content and methodology. The research carried out at the departments and centers achieves high international visibility. It uses analytical and empirical methods and focuses in particular on the functional areas of business administration: accounting, finance, marketing and supply chain management. These four areas are complemented by research in the field of management, in particular corporate management and entrepreneurship, human resources and organization.
In addition to these classic areas of business administration, research also deals with issues in the fields of economic, social and corporate history as well as business education.
Sociology
The field of sociology covers a broad spectrum of topics in a combination of theory and empiricism (qualitative and quantitative). The broad focus is reflected in the research areas of Theory and History of Sociology, International Comparative and Historical Social Analysis, Applied Sociology, Gender Sociology & Gender Studies and Economic Sociology. The Department of Sociology is also home to the Archive for the History of Austrian Sociology, the Center for Social Research and the Graz site of the Austrian Social Science Data Archive (AUSSDA). There is also a cooperation with Graz University of Technology as part of the Route 63 project.
Economics
Research in the field of economics at the University of Graz is organized into six research groups and deals with a wide range of topics. These include environmental economics, international economics, macroeconomics, price indices and real estate markets, econometrics and empirical economic research, decision theory and game theory, mechanism design and market creation, as well as collective decisions and fair division. The publications of the department can be found here.
In addition to the Department of Economics, the Department of Finance and the Graz Schumpeter Center are also part of this field.
