The Honor's Badge of the School of Business, Economics and Social Sciences
The Badge of Honour of the School of Business, Economics and Social Sciences was made in 1999 by a metalworking company in Vienna. Its design was based on the breast star of the Faculty of Jurisprudence.
Presentation case: The exterior is covered in imitation leather. The interior has a velvet lining with recesses for a neck decoration and a breast decoration. The lid is lined with white silk.
Neck decoration
Dimensions: 42 mm × 42 mm
The cross is in the form of the four-armed Maria Theresa Cross, with broad yellow-and-black metal edging. The yellow is fired enamel, giving the decoration its distinctive character. At the top, it is fitted with a suspension loop and link, and a 45 mm-wide neck ribbon with yellow and black stripes. A raised central plaque displays the university coat of arms, with black metal ornamentation, and is surrounded by a black border bearing the inscription “PRO STUDIIS OECONOMICIS”. The outer edge of the plaque is finished with a metal beaded border. Its brilliant, sparkling appearance is achieved by piercing and setting each bead individually by hand. The decoration is gilt.
Breast decoration
Dimensions: 75 mm × 75 mm
This breast star consists of 20 individual components, which are soldered together using a highly intricate process. The eight-pointed star, edged with a beaded border, has an exceptionally brilliant appearance, as each individual bead must be pierced by hand. The breast decoration has approximately 800 beads; the recesses for these are drilled by hand and each bead is set individually. This stage alone requires more than 70 hours of work per star. Mounted on the upper part of the metal star is the decoration’s cross: the four-armed Maria Theresa Cross, bearing the university coat of arms and the inscription “PRO STUDIIS OECONOMICIS”. The breast decoration is made of metal, consists of three parts and is solidly stamped. It has a double-pin fastening, is domed and is also gilt.
