Master's Degree Exam

The Master’s Degree Exam is an oral, comprehensive subject examination by committee conducted in a single examination procedure. Further information on the master’s degree examinations is available in the respective curricula as well as in the Laws Governing University Studies (§§ 27, 28, 29 and 31).

Examination Dates

Three examination dates are offered for each semester, so that six examination dates are available per year. The Dean of Studies determines examination weeks for each academic year in which the master’s degree examinations are held.

 

Examination Committee

The examination committee shall consist of at least three persons, one of whom shall be appointed as the chairwoman/chairman. One examiner must be provided for each subject (cf. § 26 Laws Governing University Studies). As a rule, the examiners shall be university teaching staff with a teaching qualification pursuant to § 98 para. 12 or § 103 UG, for those subjects in which they hold their teaching qualification (cf. § 31 Laws Governing University Studies).

Exam Registration

Registration is only possible within the registration period specified for this purpose and in compliance with the registration requirements according to the curriculum. The registration period lasts at least two weeks and ends one week before the examination date.

Registration for the master’s degree exam is done using the appropriate form in the Student Services Center of the School of Business, Economics and Social Sciences.

Cancellation of Exam Registration

Students are entitled to cancel their registration for the examination no later than 48 hours before the examination time (cf. § 29 Para. 3 Laws Governing University Studies).

If students are absent from the examination without an excuse, they will only be readmitted to the examination after eight weeks or at the next but one date (cf. § 29 Para. 4 Laws Governing University Studies).

Deadlines

The period between the submission of a scientific paper and the examination concluding the study program or the completion of the program may not be less than four weeks.

If the study program is completed with an examination that concludes the study program, this examination can be taken no earlier than two weeks after the assessment has been submitted to the Examination Office or the Dean’s Office.

Resolution of the Deans of Studies and the Director of Studies dated July 7, 2009. This resolution shall take effect at the beginning of the summer semester 2010 (March 1, 2010).

Master's Program Sociology

The master’s degree exam can only be taken after all other examinations have been passed and the master’s thesis has been positively assessed and graded.
The subject of the master’s degree exam is the master’s thesis.

Master's Program Business Education and Development

The master’s degree exam can only be taken after all courses and examinations provided for in the curriculum have been positively completed and the master’s thesis has been positively assessed and graded.
The subject of the master’s degree exam is the public presentation and defense of the master’s thesis, Module A and, depending on the chosen specialization, Module E or Module F with the corresponding specialization in Module H.

International Graduate Study Programme in Cultural Sociology

The master’s degree exam can only be taken after all other examinations have been passed and the master’s thesis has been positively assessed and graded.
The subject of the master’s degree exam is the master’s thesis.
