Bachelor Economics

Economics analyses and assesses the behaviour of private and public agents, the functional principles of societal institutions and social and economic processes of change in modern free-market economies in a national and international context. The bachelor's programme Economics provides a scientifically sound and research-based education for professions requiring according economic knowledge and methods. Basic subjects including micro and macro economics, international economy, public-sector economy, economics of growth as well as economic and distribution policy are taught on an initially introductory and later intermediate level, conveying timeless comprehensive economic knowledge. Various utilisable methods are taught in subjects such as mathematics, statistics and econometrics. Part of the course is dedicated to basic knowledge of business accounting. Moreover, the programme offers students the opportunity to specialise in two of the following areas: business studies, environmental economics, economic and social history, sociology, law, philosophy and business language. Language competence is also acquired with the aid of textbooks and courses in English. In the frame of the bachelor's thesis, students acquire skills in how to conduct scientific work correctly, in independent literature search and oral presentation, and thus the ability to work in an independent and targeted manner. They are also trained in soft skills such as teamwork and communication.

Graduates of the bachelor's programme Economics will have acquired a broad range of timeless basic knowledge in economics. Their wealth of utilisable methodical competences includes an analytical approach to solving problems as well as the ability to think and argue in the frame of (economic) models, to yield quantitative analyses and to identify and assess subjects and controversies regarding economic and political issues. They will also be able to gain independent access to relevant specialist information and present the results of their analysis in an appropriate written and oral form.
